Home > Additional Resources > How to Send large Files to Others
Google Gmail has a limit on the size of files that can be attached. To send larger files, use this procedure.
If you have not already done it, install Google Drive on your PC. The instructions are here. When it is installed, it will ask for an email: use your school email and password.
Navigate in File Explorer to where you saved the file you wish to send. In the example shown below, the file that is to be sent is called LargeFile.mp4
Right-click on the file and select Copy.
In File Explorer, on the left-hand side, scroll up or down until you see the Google Drive folder. Left-click on it to select it. When you do, the files that are in Google Drive will appear on the right-hand side of File Explorer.
Copy the file you want to send into the Google Drive folder. Depending on the size of the file, this may take a few moments.
In Google Chrome, log into your school email. Once you have done that, click on the nine dots in the upper right. A menu will appear..
Select Drive from the menu.
When the Google Drive tab opens in Chrome, navigate to the file you just put there.
Right-click on the file you put there. A menu will appear. Select Share.
The Share with others dialog box will open. In the lower right, click on Advanced.
The Sharing settings dialog box will appear. On the line that reads "Private - Only you can access", click on Change.
The Link Sharing dialog box will appear. Select the second option, "On - Anyone with the link."
After doing that, click on the Save button at the bottom.
Finally, copy the text in the Link to share box (red arrow) that is highlighted in blue. Point your mouse over it, right-click, and select Copy. At the bottom of the Sharing setting dialog box, click on Done (green arrow).
Compose an email to whomever you wanted to send the file to. In your email, if you hold down the CTRL key and press the V key, the link to your file will get pasted into your email. Alternatively, you can right-click anywhere in your email's message body, and select Paste. The recipient will then receive that email with its link to your file.
