A text editor is a type of program used for editing plain text files. Essentially, a text editor is a program you will install and use on your computer that allows you to create and edit websites.
The following are some recommended text editors for students in this class. Each text editor is free.
The Sublime Text editor is technically not free, but there is a free trial. However, the “free trial” lasts indefinitely. If you get prompted to purchase the editor, just click on Cancel. Aside from working on Mac, Windows, and Linux machines, Sublime has wonderful syntax highlighting, a bunch of attractive color schemes, the ability to add packages, and more.
Notepad ++ features syntax highlighting, tabbed files, split screen editing and synchronized scrolling, auto-completion, smart highlighting, etc. Basically everything a good text editor needs. In addition to HTML, CSS, and Javascript, Notepad++ is designed to handle just about every programming language.

Programmer's Notepad is a powerful text editor featuring syntax highlighting, project management, and a great user interface. Although Programmer's Notepad is aimed for developing programs, it can be used for editing HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
